What is HEIC?▾
HEIC is an image format commonly used on iPhone. It compresses photos well, but not all websites, editors, CMS, and services accept HEIC.
Why convert HEIC to PNG?▾
PNG is convenient for design, web, layouts, and further editing. It can preserve transparency and does not use lossy JPEG compression.
How is PNG different from JPG?▾
PNG is usually better for graphics, interfaces, transparency, and further editing. JPG is more common for photos and smaller file size.
Is the file uploaded to the server?▾
Conversion is tried locally in the browser first. If the browser decoder is unavailable or cannot handle the HEIC, the file is sent to the UtiLab server for conversion and is not stored after processing.
Why is PNG larger than HEIC?▾
HEIC usually compresses photos very well. PNG can be significantly larger, especially for photos. If size matters, use JPG or WebP.
Is transparency preserved?▾
PNG supports transparency. If the source HEIC contains an alpha channel and the browser decoder passes it through, the tool should preserve transparency in PNG.
Why might conversion fail?▾
Some HEIC/HEIF variants or damaged files may not be supported by the browser decoder or server. File size may also be limited (up to 20 MB).
Are EXIF and metadata preserved?▾
During browser conversion, metadata and EXIF are usually not preserved. This may remove capture date, GPS, device model, and orientation.
Can I convert several HEIC files at once?▾
This tool processes one file at a time to keep the interface simple. For batch conversion, use a separate batch tool.
Do I need to register?▾
No. The tool works immediately and does not require registration.
